The Orange County Literacy Council is moving and needs help determining needs and building a wireless network. We'd also like to use a VoIP system - even something as simple as each staff person having a Skype account. For a number of years we have been renting space in a county building - we are a free standing 501(c)3 - and with that came full network services. We are moving out of county space and need to create our own system.

Will offer help, but not expertise
By JoeBallouI'll come out and help with the move, but I don't really have expertise with the wireless .vs. wired connectivity. I do know that in my wireless router at home there are a few different security options, the most secure, from what I've been told, being where you provide the router with the exact IP addresses to allow use of the wireless network. As far as the desktop computers, unless running the ethernet cable is an issue, I'd go with hard wired, as desktop systems aren't typically moved very much.
Keep us posted exactly when you need the help.
Depending on the importance
By jwberninDepending on the importance and privacy requirements of your data, you may want to consider a wired alternative (as opposed to wireless). Call me paranoid, but I don't always trust wireless networks with important or private data. Having your staff laptops on the wired network and your student machines on wireless would also help ensuring noone goes poking around looking at data they shouldn't be looking at.
Questions
By hallmanHow soon are you moving? How many computers will you be networking?
OCLC move date, etc
By adensonWe'll be moving very soon - the first week of July. We have 8 laptops, all with wireless cards, that need to be on the network. We would also like to set up about 6 computers (desktops that can have wireless cards added) for our students. The student computers don't need to attach to the OCLC server, but they do need internet access.
